Follow-up phase targeted at scaling up technical skills, expanding community-based sea cucumber farming, and improving culture methods inside sea pen nurseries across Vietnam and the Philippines. The 5-year Phase 2 concluded in 2023.

Continuous partnership
UPTC continues to provide GDFI researchers access to its laboratory facilities and equipment, allowing sediment and biofilm samples gathered during field work to be processed and analyzed.
Conservation
September 2016 – May 2018
Adopting a ridge-to-reef framework to build community climate resilience and safeguard Lawaan's biodiversity. GDFI also sponsored the field research expenses of BS Biology graduating students from UPVTC in 2017 and 2018.

DENR-GMRPLS spearheaded the establishment of a Network of Marine Sanctuaries in the GMRPLS area. GDFI was designated as a member of the Research and Development committee for the Network's official management body.

Coordinated an alliance-wide event hosted by LGU Quinapondan to honor local fishers and judge the "Best Managed MPA" competition. DA-PRDP contributed engine raffle items and funding for the marine sanctuary network infrastructure.

Continuous endowment
The interest income generated from the PhP1.0M endowment fund originally donated by JIZFI continues to support insurance coverage and capacity building for GDFI's active MPA and Bantay Dagat volunteers across 24 marine sanctuaries.
