MPA
Continuous endowment, established 2017
JIZFI provided a ₱1.0M endowment fund to GDFI. The accrued income is strictly used to pay insurance premiums and cover capacity-building expenses for GDFI-Bantay Dagat and MPA volunteers.
Education
Started 2015, runs continuously
A scholarship program helping underprivileged children affected by Typhoon Haiyan stay in school. It provides financial allowances of ₱12,000/year for high school students and ₱5,000 to ₱8,000/semester for state college students.

April 2013 – July 2018
A research project aimed at developing commercial-scale hatchery and grow-out technologies for the sandfish (Holothuria scabra), adapting systems to social, institutional, and bio-physical settings. It established a 5-hectare sea ranch in Maliwaliw Island.

GDFI presented biophysical assessment data on Lawaan ecosystems and Philippine Cockatoo sightings on Homonhon Island to urge policymakers to declare critical habitats or expand protected seascapes.

Collaborated on data collection and policy analysis regarding Community-Based Forest Management Areas (CBFMAs) and local coastal ecosystems.
Disaster Resilience
March 7 – 10, 2017
GDFI participated in this conference held at IIRR, Cavite, and the Asian Institute of Management (AIM) to share experiences and learn best practices for building disaster-resilient coastal communities across Asian countries.
